Bob Marley’s Spiritual Rhetoric, the Spread of Jamaican Culture and Rastafarianism

They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same. John and his wife, newly married, decided to sharpen their parenting skills, which they thought they would soon need, by purchasing a dog. They ended up with Marley, a crazy, loveable Labrador Retriever.

John Grogan holds fond memories of his childhood pet, a mutt dog named Shaun. John and his newlywed wife, Jenny, are contemplating having children and decide that a dog will be good parenting practice. The couple visits a local breeder specializing in Labrador retrievers where Jenny picks out a rambunctious, gangly puppy. Marley proves to be nothing like Shaun. He is a salivating, headstrong, damage-effecting, barreling-through-life flash of yellow fur.

The dog is poorly behaved and destructive, and the book covers the issues this causes in the family as they learn to accept him in addition to their grief following Marley's death. It has subsequently been adapted by the author in three separate books, as well as separately into a comedy-drama film released in Told in first-person narrative , the book portrays Grogan and his family's life during the thirteen years that they lived with their dog Marley, and the relationships and lessons from this period. Marley, a yellow Labrador Retriever , is described as a high-strung, boisterous, and somewhat uncontrolled dog. He is strong, powerful, endlessly hungry, eager to be active, and often destructive of their property but completely without malice.
