This chapter deals with power systems reliability including technical, economical, and decisional aspects. When studying components, degradation models were introduced and combined with the effects of socks to study the reliability changing during system operation. In some works, the correlation between maintenance policies and reliability aspects was highlighted. In a recent work, considering the importance of new technologies integration and renewable energy insertion to power systems, it was revealed that reliability aspects and energy sustainability are two fundamental issues of progress in a given society. Methods and Applications

The importance of power system reliability is demonstrated when our electricity supply is disrupted, whether it decreases the comfort of our free time at home or causes the shutdown of our companies and results in huge economic deficits. The objective of Assessment of Power System Reliability is to contribute to the improvement of power system reliability. It consists of six parts divided into twenty chapters. The first part introduces the important background issues that affect power system reliability.

Advanced topics in power system planning are discussed. Beginning with forecasting and ending with automated transmission system planning, the concepts and analytical details of forecasting, generation system reliability analysis, generation system cost analysis, power flow analysis, transmission system reliability analysis, and, finally, automated transmission planning are presented. Each chapter relies on material presented in previous chapters, much in the way that, in practice, the various planning steps rely very heavily on other steps. A common project is used throughout the book and in each chapter the concepts are illustrated by taking simple examples based on this project. At the end of each chapter representative problems are provided for student use, problems which in most instances can be solved by hand or by using calculators. Similar records in OSTI.
